Abstract

This study explores how higher education institutions (HEIs) can enhance community development and environmental sustainability by integrating entrepreneurial-focused programs into their curricula, addressing the question: How can collaborative efforts among lecturers, students, and communities foster sustainable empowerment? In Indonesia, where HEIs are pivotal in national development, community engagement often remains a formality rather than a strategic priority. This research investigates the impact of entrepreneurial-oriented community development on student learning and societal outcomes, using an action research approach to generate actionable knowledge. The study focuses on the Rural Community Development Program (RCDP) at ABC University (a pseudonym), a curriculum-based initiative that promotes entrepreneurship through partnerships with rural communities. Data were collected through student reports, interviews with stakeholders (e.g., university staff, students, and village partners), and participatory observation. The article discusses the RCDP’s dual simultaneous cycle model, which facilitates knowledge transfer, social value exchange, and business development. Key findings reveal that the RCDP enhances students’ practical learning by engaging over 100 student groups in real-world business support, improving rural entrepreneurs’ business knowledge in areas like strategy, marketing, and finance.
